Don’t miss out—**check the event announcement** and learn more! --- Well, here’s the story. The family originally had a SanDisk 120GB solid-state drive. There was also an old Western Digital Black drive in stock, but it had a very long power-up time (probably over 24,000 hours). Although it was an enterprise-level drive, it wasn’t immune to failures. It just so happened that the Q group’s old driver bought it on a whim. Maybe many of you are unfamiliar with this brand. To be honest, I was too. Later, I found out that this brand ranked 7th in the **October 2017 mainland SSD shipment rankings**, but the top few were well-known names like Kingston, Kimtack, and Rainbow. Instead, the list was filled with less familiar brands, making it feel like a "golden plum" in a sea of known names. --- As per the old rules, I first went to search for the best home link: But since the transportation link isn’t mentioned, I’ll skip to the unboxing. ![Unboxing Image 1](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/df/a6/0f/55d3e78ca6e6ac3cb9af309ef2.jpg) ![Unboxing Image 2](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/89/0e/e6/77bb04c3cb143a58e547b01570.jpg) ![Unboxing Image 3](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/8d/60/9b/31d4f3c79013dfadeecd58407d.jpg) ![Unboxing Image 4](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/b3/88/a1/bba3d279632a55f9e4ab78d51a.jpg) ![Unboxing Image 5](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/25/7f/65/102f1ca209c288a4156164924f.jpg) ![Unboxing Image 6](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/8b/c4/85/94b728e439e0ce086d8323768f.jpg) ![Unboxing Image 7](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/a5/5f/39/ea4b331bf60bc54f9edebb2580.jpg) The packaging could only be described as “shabby.” There was only a manual and four mounting screws—nothing else. But considering the low price, it's understandable. --- I didn't open it right away because the official promise was a three-year warranty, and for a niche brand, quality assurance matters more. What if it fails? I checked the official website, but there was no detailed description of the product—only info on Z1 and Z1 PRO models. Even basic specs like controller type, cache size, and particle type were missing. However, the seller’s page had a lot of details. After some research, I believe this drive uses the **Grouplink PS3110 controller**, **Toshiba TLC particles**, and **South Asia 512MB cache**. It seems Grouplink doesn’t sell the controller separately, and they have a strategic partnership with Toshiba, controlling the sale of finished products to downstream channels like Sony, Galaxy, and Kingston Savaga. If that’s true, then the drive should be stable. --- I'll reference what the 3DM hardware zone moderator **huge_nebula** said about MLC and TLC: SSDs today are high-end or budget, and they all have their pros and cons. The main difference between SSDs and HDDs is the response speed. HDDs typically respond in around 10 milliseconds, while SSDs are about 0.01 milliseconds. That’s why SSDs are so much faster—not just in continuous read/write speeds. So, if your computer isn’t using an SSD, it’s basically outdated. As for MLC vs. TLC, those discussions are outdated. Most SSDs now use TLC, and even 3D NAND TLC has improved significantly. You won’t find MLC drives anymore unless you’re looking for something very specific. When choosing a TLC SSD, prioritize larger capacity. The bigger the drive, the longer its lifespan under the same conditions. --- Keke... I think that's enough for now. Let's move on. ![Test Image 1](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/27/62/af/1b7076b38ca46768fe7dbcf376.jpg) My main system was used for testing, but this configuration wasn’t strong enough to fully showcase the SSD’s potential. For comparison, I tested the 120GB SanDisk as well (previously purchased, with MLC particles). On the left is SanDisk, on the right is the new one. ![Test Image 2](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/d5/c0/ab/e88bae19a6034cbe6c8a53e8d0.jpg) It seems CrystalDiskInfo can't detect detailed data. Many fields are labeled as "manufacturer-specific." From the screenshot, we can see it's TLC. Also, the serial number starts with "20180113"—I bought it on January 18th, which means it was in stock for only a few days before reaching me. The manufacturer's turnover is really fast. No wonder it made it into the top 7 in the October 2017 mainland SSD shipment rankings. ![Test Image 3](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/7a/93/d7/a4cb9611fa20c6ece54acec08d.jpg) SSD-Z test results also failed to show some key details. ![Test Image 4](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/0c/b0/59/b617a328995c7cdf6ab8e1df83.jpg) AS SSD ran a screenshot, but the data shows some discrepancies. Just take a look—it's not that serious. ![Test Image 5](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/db/fd/45/7b365c22beaa547e40e721205a.jpg) CrystalDiskMark results showed lower scores compared to other users. After communication, it turned out my CPU frequency was lower, and the motherboard’s south bridge was older, with DDR3 1600 memory. Still, overall performance was acceptable—no major issues. --- In conclusion, this SSD has clear advantages and disadvantages. It offers great value for money, with Grouplink control, Toshiba particles, South Asia cache, and a three-year warranty. But how well it performs in real life is still to be seen.
