The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced that it issued "LTE/Fourth Generation Digital Cellular Mobile Telecommunications (LTE FDD)" business licenses to China Telecom Corporation and China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. in accordance with telecommunication regulations and telecommunications business license management measures.
Undoubtedly, China will fully usher in the 4G era this year. Miao Wei, the minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that in 2015, it will accelerate the construction of 4G networks and business development, and 4G users will strive to exceed 250 million.
As early as last June, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had issued TD-LTE/LTE FDD hybrid group trial commercial operation licenses to China Unicom and China Telecom, and the two companies were allowed to conduct trials in 16 cities. As of the end of last year, China Unicom and China Telecom’s TD-LTE/LTE FDD hybrid networking pilot cities had a cumulative total of 56.
In December 2013, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued TD-LTE standard 4G licenses to China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. However, the TD-LTE standard is dominated by China Mobile. In the past year, China Mobile has grown wildly in 4G, reversing its weak situation in the TD-SCDMA network in the 3G era.
Obviously, China Unicom and China Telecom are always waiting for FDD licenses. In the past, with the relatively mature WCDMA and CDMA 2000 networks, the “three pillars†pattern formed by China Unicom and China Telecom and China Mobile was broken by a TD-LTE 4G license.
