On April 30th, Samsung Electronics announced that its Q1 thin-type TV shipments in 2010 reached 8.4 million units, an increase of 47%. Among them, the demand for 40-inch LCD TVs and LED backlight TVs that have been developed in the market has increased.
Looking forward to this quarter, Samsung Electronics expects demand for thin TVs to increase by 34% year-on-year, mainly driven by the World Cup, LED and 3D TV. Samsung also expects that the proportion of Q2 global LED backlights in LCD TV sales will increase from 4% in Q4 in 2009 and 9% in Q1 in 10 years to 15%. In addition, emerging market demand is also expected to continue to rise in the second half of 2010.
Samsung Electronics said that the company plans to expand to all LED TV market segments this quarter, including 32-inch and 60Hz models.
