The results of the Steam Hardware Company’s June survey have been released. Although the results are broadly similar, some changes are beginning to show, indicating that the virtual reality (VR) status on the Steam platform may be undergoing subtle changes.
Some analysts believe that the June performance is a good benchmark, because in the last month, none of the three virtual reality headsets compatible with virtual reality headsets have released any important versions, and the prices have not really changed. Therefore, Oculus Rift is still the leading device, accounting for 46.26% of the entire VR headset use, while HTC is slightly behind 44.56%. This gap is slightly larger than in May, at 46.1% and 45.31% respectively.
What is more interesting to many experts is the news that Windows 10-based mixed reality operating system headsets have been quietly increasing market share, accounting for 6.25% in the survey. This is still not close to HTC Vive or Oculus rift, but it does show that no matter how slow progress is, some areas are being made up for.
The price range of Windows Mixed Reality devices is very wide, but there is no big title specifically for them, although their SteamVR compatibility is a big selling point. Unlike the price cuts of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, the price has not changed much.
Several new products released in July will undoubtedly stimulate the Steam VR market, including Oculus Rift exclusive Marvel power United VR, which may prompt a surge in demand for this Facebook-powered device.
Other analysts pointed out that the finger-tracking knuckle controller has begun to ship to developers, and the highly anticipated finger-tracking function may also promote the development of HTC Vive to some extent.
