Tektronix has added two new modules to the TG700 modular multi-format test signal and sync pulse generator that have been successful in the market, which will enable the TG700 to provide a wide range of test and reference signals for a wide range of analog and digital formats. The TG700 has been used by users around the world. The National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) also used the TG700 for signal transmission at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The two new modules are HD3G7 and GPS7, of which the HD3G7 module provides 3Gbps SDI test signals, while the GPS7 module is a GPS-based synchronization and time code generator. With these two modules, the TG700 can generate more than any other synchronization pulse. Supporting more video formats, including dual-link, 2K color space formats and 1080p formats, the TG700 can help users around the world transition to the latest digital video formats.

The TG700 supports HD, dual link and 3Gbps SDI signal formats. Unlike a reference signal generator that encloses several limited configuration options in a small box, the TG700 is a modular system consisting of a number of independent output modules, each of which supports multiple output formats. This makes the TG700 the most flexible generator platform that can fully meet the needs of specific customers. It can continuously provide support for new formats, thus protecting the investment in customer equipment acquisition. Currently, the TG700 has supported more than 200 test signals. Each technical support can be added based on business needs.

“To ensure the performance of the system, the synchronization of the entire broadcast television facility is crucial,” said Eben Jenkins, director of video product line at Tektronix. “With the advent of new digital technologies, features can be added through a module. Conveniently transition from analog to digital. This new addition to the TG700 module helps customers use the latest digital technology. It is designed to meet the mixed-mode requirements of digital post-production and runtime environments. The TG700 brings together a host of technical features. It has the most flexibility compared to any other generator. It is very easy to upgrade, customers only need to purchase the modules currently needed in their facilities, and can be easily upgraded at any time in the future if new requirements arise."

The new, industry-leading 3Gbps HD3G7 module provides 1080p SDI signal generation in a single link, supporting 1080p 50/59.94/60 "fast progressive" format SMPTE 425M standard "Level A" or " Level B”. With the 3Gbps HD3G7 module, video equipment designers and manufacturers can quickly and efficiently bring their new products to market, and broadcast TV owners and post-production producers can launch 3Gbps services as quickly as possible. With this module, the customer can also up-convert the incoming HD-SDI signal, which converts the camera or VTR source signal from a standard HD-SDI output to an arbitrary 3Gbps content output in a convenient manner. Device manufacturers use the TG700's trigger output feature to synchronize the oscilloscope or other test equipment with its output video signal.

The new GPS7 module facilitates digital video conversion in a variety of ways. With the GPS7 module, broadcasters and post-production producers can use it as a master clock synchronization system to provide video reference signals and timecode output. The GPS7 module integrates a GPS receiver to simplify system configuration so that it provides the necessary clock signals from a single global reference. Compared to any other signal generator product, the GPS module also has more LTC outputs to support multiple frame rate video signals simultaneously in the system.

The GPS7 module option provides support for all video reference signals in the broadcaster's system infrastructure, which can be locked to a very stable source, thus avoiding any long-term drift. In post-production applications, the GPS7 module provides flexible timecode support with the TG700. Many post-production producers often work in multiple video format environments at the same time, so it is important to be able to support multiple video formats and timecode formats. Using GPS7, the TG700 provides a black-field color burst output and a three-level sync reference signal output that are synchronized with the GPS-based time source, as well as precise time code signals via LTC and VITC outputs.

The TG700 uses StayGenLockTM technology to enable subsequent synchronization reconstruction even when the sync signal is lost, ensuring a stable transition of the signal.

The two modules above the delivery time will be ordered in October and November respectively.
