US Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls Chinese-made lamps

On June 10, 2008, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and ProgressLighting jointly announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made indoor chandeliers.

The recalled International series of indoor chandeliers consists of metal parts and opal glass shades, which can be used with incandescent tubes or fluorescent tubes, Madein/Hechoen/FabriqueauxChina and product models on the top of the outer packaging and lamps. The models involved in this recall are: P2854-09EBWB, P2855-09EBWB, P2856-09EBWB, P2859-09EBWB, P2860-09EBWB, P2861-09EBWB, P3443-09, P3444-09, P3445-09, P3789-09, P3790 -09, P3791-09, P4263-09, P4264-09, P4265-09, P4265-09EXP. The luminaire is also sold under the Thomasville Lighting trademark. The luminaires were sold at the Electrical/lighting retail stores and TheHomeDepot stores nationwide from January 2005 to March 2008 at a price of $290 to $1,150 per set.

The number of recalled goods was about 7,500 sets. The reason for the recall is that the suspension cable hanging the luminaire is easy to disconnect, such as causing the luminaire to fall, which may injure the nearby personnel. Currently, ProgressLighting has received five reports of lights falling due to disconnection of the suspension cable, including one injury.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that consumers immediately remove the luminaire and contact ProgressLighting to arrange for a free repair of the sling or replacement of other products.
