Deep UV LED (UV-LED) Module

Deep UV LED (UV-LED) Module
The "UV-LED" module, which uses an LED to generate UV light at a wavelength of 270 nm, was developed by Panasonic Environmental Solutions. The module will be available on June 16, 2014.
Deep ultraviolet rays having a wavelength near 270 nm have a sterilizing ability. However, the main source of the deep ultraviolet range of the previous light source is a cold cathode tube and a mercury lamp. Therefore, the UV light source is not only large in size, but also requires the use of a frequency converter for lighting, and therefore requires a large installation space. In addition, there are also problems such as being easily broken due to the use of glass materials, containing mercury, generating ozone, and failing to light up instantaneously.
Panasonic's new product solves the above problem of light sources. The company significantly reduced the crystal defect density of LED chips and succeeded in generating deep ultraviolet light with a wavelength of about 270 nm at an output power of 10 mW or more. It was confirmed that a sterilization effect of 99.9% or more can be achieved by irradiation for 10 minutes.
Panasonic uses this deep ultraviolet LED to make a sterilization module. This product uses a LED as a light source to realize a thin (ie3.25mm thick) and small (15mmx25mm) design, and also has a waterproof performance (IPX4), so it can also be embedded in domestic water appliances for small household appliances and residential equipment. Moreover, the product does not contain mercury and does not generate ozone, and it adopts an environmentally friendly design.
The UV-LED chip equipped with this product was developed by the Japan Institute of Physical Chemistry, and the life of the light source reached more than 10,000 hours.

High-mast lights are quite different in nature from more typical street or roadway lights. High-mast fixtures are regularly mounted at 60 ft to more than 100 ft above ground level and occasionally as high as 250 ft. Normal Street Lights are typically mounted at heights lower than 60 ft, and many are in the 30-ft range.
The applications for high-mast lights include installations at transportation terminals, other large, outdoor maintenance or storage yards, and specialty roadway applications. The aforementioned freeway interchange installations are probably the most common roadway application, although you will find some high-mast lights within municipalities in busy areas
