During a recent test drive, I was immediately struck by the car’s stylish interior, spacious seating, and intuitive technology. Though my time behind the wheel was limited, the experience left a lasting impression.
What truly sets the 5008 apart is its design. Unlike the more conservative German offerings, Peugeot embraces a more expressive and modern aesthetic. Under the hood, the 5008 is built on PSA’s latest EMP2 platform, giving it a generous size of 4641 x 1855 x 1646 mm, with a 2840 mm wheelbase—surpassing even the Toyota Highlander. Its third-row seating offers practicality without compromising comfort, making it a strong contender against rivals like the Volkswagen Tiguan L and the Mazda CX-9.
Inside, the cabin blends futuristic elements with premium materials. The center console features soft-touch surfaces and wood trim, while the D-shaped steering wheel adds a sporty touch. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is both visually appealing and highly customizable, enhancing the driving experience.
Power comes from two available engines: a 1.6THP and a 1.8THP, both paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.8T model we tested delivered smooth power delivery, with quick acceleration and minimal turbo lag. Even with four adults aboard, the performance felt robust and capable for everyday use.
The driving dynamics are impressive, especially in Sport mode, where the car becomes more responsive and engaging. While the simulated engine sound isn’t as natural as a real one, it still adds to the overall experience. The Aisin 6-speed gearbox shifts smoothly in daily driving, though it shows some limitations under aggressive conditions.
On the highway, the chassis remains composed, but at higher speeds, it feels more average compared to some competitors. Still, the ride quality is well-tuned, offering a balance between comfort and control.
Safety is also a highlight, with the Peugeot ADAS system including adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, and active braking. These features work well in real-world scenarios, though they’re only available on the top trim level.
