[High-tech Conference] Liyang Optoelectronic Yang Jian: The importance of the construction of the technology platform to the enterprise

On December 22nd, the 2017 Gaogong LED Annual Meeting took place at the Shenzhen Baoan Dunxi Road International Hotel. This event featured a special session titled "LED Packaging Equipment and Materials," where several industry leaders shared their insights. Among the speakers were Luo Huanta, Dean of the High-tech LED Industry Research Institute; Zhang Qinglang, Director of R&D; Mr. Yuan Manbao, Deputy General Manager of Xinyichang; Vice President Kang Meite; Manager Ma Jing; Chen Xuexing, General Manager of Chenri Technology; Yang Jian, Deputy General Manager of Liyang Optoelectronics; and Ye Shanghui, General Manager of Zhongke Core Source. Yang Jian, Deputy General Manager of Liyang Optoelectronics, delivered an engaging speech on “The Breakthrough of Technology Enterprises: The Importance of the Construction of Process Platforms to Enterprises.” He emphasized that any form of innovation—whether in products or processes—must be grounded in a strong process platform. According to him, the level of a company's process platform directly determines its product innovation capability and overall competitiveness. He explained that developing and innovating the process platform helps improve product innovation and market position, while also accelerating the industrialization of new ideas. The technical quality of the process platform affects how efficiently resources are transformed during production and ultimately impacts the company’s economic performance. Yang also pointed out that while product innovations can be easily imitated and may lose competitive advantage quickly, process platform innovations are more complex and harder to replicate. This makes them a key driver in extending a company’s lead time in the market. In 2017, the LED industry was entering a phase of deep integration, requiring companies to integrate products, capabilities, resources, and supply chains. As a technology-driven enterprise, breaking through at the technical level meant focusing on resource integration and building robust process platforms. According to Yang, product innovation is result-oriented, while process innovation is process-oriented. Product innovation leads to tangible outputs, whereas process innovation focuses on improving productivity and maximizing output. He added that process innovation is the foundation of product innovation, enabling companies to leverage multiple sources of productivity effectively. He outlined three levels of process platform innovation: first, from the enterprise’s development strategy; second, from technological advancements within the company; and third, real-time innovation in the product development process. Liyang Optoelectronics has made significant progress in its packaging process platform in recent years. The company has focused on material-based product process innovation, including flip-chip high-density COB series products, EMC and mold-top products, and ceramic substrate materials. These platforms have enabled Liyang to enter various high-demand fields such as high-power general lighting, projector light sources, security infrared, UV purification, and automotive lighting. By investing in process innovation, Liyang Optoelectronics continues to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving LED industry.
