Jian Yu, general manager of Confucian Electronics, said that aluminum substrates were only used in some special fields. In recent years, with the rapid development of LED lighting, they have emerged from the PCB family. LED lighting products mainly consist of three major components: light source, power supply, and substrate. As one of them, the aluminum substrate accounts for a large part of the cost of the whole lamp.
The continuous decline in the price of LED lighting applications is a general trend. The new technology of aluminum substrates can indirectly bring about cost reduction, which will enable LEDs to be truly distributed to the market and accepted by consumers.
Jian Yucang believes that in terms of packaging, COB packaging must be the future development direction, and the aluminum substrate will undergo revolutionary changes in the next two or three years. However, at present, high-end packages are generally on a copper substrate or a ceramic substrate, which is relatively expensive. Confucian Electronics can reduce the cost by 50% by optimizing the aluminum substrate to meet the requirements of COB packaging. If it is mass-produced in the future, the cost will drop more.
