Modular automation of assembly lines

Recently, the 29th International Exhibition on Automated Assembled Machinery / Motek 2010 was held at the new exhibition center in Stuttgart, Germany. Beckhoff participated in this event with its PC-based and EtherCAT-based control technology. In this exhibition, Beckhoff exhibited its latest generation of TwinCAT 3 software. It has a modular structure and supports multi-core processors, so it can open up new possibilities for modern control technology.

The assembly line consists of multiple units. Generally speaking, the development and testing of these units are largely independent of each other. The structure of the latest runtime environment of TwinCAT 3 is also modular. With TwinCAT 3, developers can use a large number of existing modules and integrate them in a modern Microsoft Visual Studio®-based development environment to form new modules or complete control programs. The IEC 61131-3 automation language as well as C and C++ are available and can be used simultaneously. Other development software, such as Matlab®/Simulink®, can be used to create modules.

The TwinCAT control module interacts on the same control platform via defined interfaces. In this way, the performance of the industrial PC or embedded controller can be fully utilized without affecting communication or synchronization performance.

Scientific Automation: Optimizing the use of multi-core technology TwinCAT 3 uses a multi-core CPU that can run different tasks on each core, making full use of each core's resources, thereby significantly increasing processing speed compared to previous versions. It is more open, more flexible, and easier to extend, and its processing speed is faster than current PC-based controllers. In addition to PLC and motion control, TwinCAT 3 can also integrate functions such as measurement technology, condition monitoring and robotics. Beckhoff summed up this function extension of the PC controller as a concept of "scientific automation" and it was another theme exhibited by Beckhoff at the Motek exhibition. Beckhoff's PC-based control technology combines powerful CPUs, high-speed I/O, high-speed EtherCAT bus systems, and TwinCAT software to form a complete control system.

About Beckhoff Beckhoff Automation GmbH - Headquartered in Weil, Germany. The company has branches all over the world, plus global partners, currently the company's business has spread to more than 60 countries.

Beckhoff always uses the new PC-based automation technology as its development philosophy. The industrial computers, fieldbus modules, drive products and TwinCAT control software produced by the company constitute a complete and compatible control system for various industrial control areas. Provide open automation systems and complete solutions. In the past 30 years, Beckhoff's components and system solutions have been widely used around the world.

Since the Beijing Beckhoff Beijing Representative Office was established in March 2001, the company's business in China has developed rapidly. The Shanghai Representative Office and the Guangzhou Representative Office have been established, and liaison offices have been established in Ningbo, Wuhan, Chengdu and Qingdao. In August 2007, the representative office in Shanghai officially established Beckhoff China after the restructuring of the company and moved the headquarters of Beckhoff China to Shanghai. With a variety of new products and new technologies with good cost-effectiveness entering the Chinese market, the concept of daring to break the traditional control model and promote PC control of new technologies has been accepted by more and more Chinese users.
