Simulated daylight color temperature change Silk matches human body clock

LED lamp manufacturer Saffron is the latest company to join this camp. According to reports, Saffron began financing the Silk Light project on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter on June 23rd. Silk Light is an application-controlled white LED that adjusts its color temperature to avoid disrupting the body's natural sleep/wake cycle. According to Saffron, Silk Light delivers exciting cold light during the day and a pleasant warm glow at night, close to the 24-hour period of natural light.


Urban lifestyles allow people to enjoy only limited natural light, which can distort human circadian rhythms because the body clock inside the body is precisely tuned to a 24-hour day/night cycle. To make matters worse, many of the devices around our display emit blue light that inhibits melatonin secretion, which can prevent people from falling asleep. Some researchers and vendors such as Saffron believe that the answer to this problem is to let the bulb simulate the change in color temperature and brightness of daylight.

Can this be done with existing smart bulbs that support color temperature adjustment? Maybe, but it is very difficult. Silk Light and its companion applications were developed specifically to solve this problem. Users can follow the default schedule or set the brightness and color temperature of different bulbs (or groups of bulbs) at different times of the week in advance. Users can even set up Silk Light based on specific activities.


In an email sent to TechHive, Saffron said, "The main reason for us to differentiate us from other bulbs is our nClick technology. With our unique nClick system, users can change the bulb by pressing the 1 or 2 lamp switch. “Settings”, Silk Light does not require users to add wiring or install other components.

According to Saffron, users can use the Silk app to specify the specific action of the switch in the push mode (supporting any standard wall switch). For example, the user can specify that the two-down switch activates the rest and relaxation modes; likewise, pressing the three-down switch activates the exercise mode, which initially emits an exciting, bright, luminescent light that transitions to the end as the workout approaches the end Relax the light.


Silk Light uses the ZigBee wireless network protocol to communicate with smartphones via a ZigBee-WiFi bridge. Silk Light is equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent lamp that consumes 12 watts of light and has a luminous flux of 800 lumens. Silk Light has a color temperature range of 2700K-6000K. The kit with 3 Silk Light bulbs and 1 bridge is available for $99 on Kickstarter (approximately RMB 605). Saffron plans to raise $100,000 (about RMB 610,000).
