The LED lighting industry in China and the world is moving towards adjustment. While large LED chip and device manufacturers in China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Europe and the United States compete for market dominance, some smaller manufacturers have suffered from falling prices and difficult production capacity to meet the sudden surge in orders.

Regarding whether the industry needs to be integrated, Wang Donglei, Chairman of Dehao Runda, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Corporate Helplessness and Free Choice?” at the 2013 Gaogong LED Industry Summit Forum, stating that unconformity in industrial integration is no longer a problem. The industry has developed so far, if there is no integration, what is the way out?

Previously, the industry had been discussing how many LED epitaxial chip companies could be left in China. Wang Donglei believes that LED upstream can't escape the law of semiconductor industry development in the future. At present, there are three to five successful semiconductor companies in the world. "This is not a transfer of your personal will, nor is it possible for the Chinese market to monopolize, or the Taiwan market can monopolize or the Korean market can monopolize. The world may end up with only three or five LED epitaxial chip companies, maybe two. ”



In his view, industry consolidation is an inevitable trend, and it has long been realized that companies will have more opportunities than passive integration. "Upstream must be monopolistic, and it has a natural monopoly. Only under such monopoly conditions, chip companies are likely to obtain monopoly profits."

Different from the integration of mergers and acquisitions in mainland China, the inherent division of labor in the Taiwan region is indeed a special case. Wang Donglei said that this is determined by the ownership structure between upstream and downstream enterprises in Taiwan. It is only the unique characteristics of Taiwan's industry and does not represent the development trend of the global industry.

For the development trend of the midstream packaging industry, Wang Donglei admits that there is still a lot of uncertainty in the development of packaging technology, and remains to be seen. Throughout the industry, only Taiwan chooses to separate upstream and downstream, chips are chips, and packages are packaged.

He believes that epitaxial chip technology is still in a period of rapid change. In the past, the chip-loading technology required enterprises to configure a large number of fixed-crystal bonding wire equipment, but if my chip is directly attached, such as flip-chip technology, it will have a major impact on the traditional packaging process. . At the same time, it also includes new coating technology for phosphors, and there are too many alternative technical solutions in the selection and laboratory stages.

For the downstream lighting application market demand exceeding the expected growth in the first half of this year, Wang Donglei believes that the future light source functional lighting products will become a semi-monopoly industry. He uses traditional lighting as an example to show that a standard light source product only earns 3 cents. 5 cents up to 1 yuan, the company must finally rely on the amount to win, which also has a natural monopoly.

At present, LED chips account for 23%-30% of the overall cost of light source products. In Wang Donglei's view, the cost of LED chips will rise to 65%-75% in the future as the cost of other light source components decreases. "The cost of the chip as a light source will only be much less. In the future, the light source and the chip will be very tightly combined, because the added value and cost of the chip determine its profit."

On the other hand, as a consumer, demand market, the construction of channels has become an important means for many LED lighting companies in the past year, although many LED corporate brands have never appeared in any media.

“A reporter asked me yesterday that many people regard 2013 as the channel construction year and ask me what I think.” Wang Donglei said frankly that the channel construction game is over. “Because the channel needs to be invested enough, it takes time and luck.”
