New products from Seoul Semiconductor's white LED series "Acriche"

Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. announced that it will start mass production and sales of the new product "A4", a new white LED series "Acriche" that does not require a DC conversion circuit and a drive circuit. The new product is designed for high efficiency and miniaturization. This series integrates dozens of LED units in a single chip. The driving voltage of each unit is about 3V, so as a chip connected in series, a voltage of several tens of V or hundreds of volts can be applied. Therefore, this LED does not need to convert an AC 100V power supply to a DC power and a rated voltage like a normal LED, and does not require a conversion circuit and a drive circuit. As long as the reverse current and the overvoltage are not applied, it is only necessary to combine a simple circuit such as a diode bridge and a resistor.

Among the original products of the Acriche series, there is a product that integrates four chips in a single package. The product's power supply voltage is 100V, the luminous flux is 150lm, and the power consumption is 4W. In terms of package size, the package portion in the planar direction has a diameter of 8 mm, and the size including the terminal extending from the package to the outside is 14.5 mm and the height is 5 mm. The new product has a power supply voltage of 50V, a luminous flux of 60lm, a power consumption of 0.8W, and a luminous efficiency of 75lm/W. The package size is small, the plane is only 7mm square and the height is 2.95mm. The color temperature is 3000K, and the color rendering index (CRI) is 85 or more.

In order to achieve this luminescence? Ke left? The company optimized the chip structure and dopant concentration distribution. In the mass production phase, the company plans to achieve a luminous efficiency of 100 lm/W in the first quarter of 2010 and 120 lm/W in the fourth quarter of 2010. In the research and development stage, the current luminous efficiency has reached 85lm/W, which will increase to 115lm/W in the first quarter of 2010 and to 135lm/W in the fourth quarter of 2010. In order to achieve miniaturization, the company has transformed the original plating structure using lead frames and resins into a structure that does not require electroplating.
