Smart manufacturing standards lead the industry

In order to accelerate the comprehensive standardization of intelligent manufacturing, enhance top-level planning, establish a robust intelligent manufacturing standard system, and leverage the guiding role of standards in driving industry development, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Standardization Administration have initiated research on the construction of an integrated smart manufacturing standardization framework. As a result, they have drafted the "Guideline for the Construction of a National Intelligent Manufacturing Standard System (2018 Edition)" for public consultation. Smart manufacturing represents an essential direction for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and it is also a crucial area where artificial intelligence intersects with various sectors. From a policy perspective, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently released the "Three-Year Action Plan for the Promotion of Next-Generation Artificial Intelligence Industry Development (2018–2020)", emphasizing the deepening of intelligent manufacturing and encouraging the exploration and application of advanced AI technologies across different industrial fields. The plan also introduced the first list of recommended smart manufacturing solution providers, highlighting the growing importance of this sector. Meanwhile, industry players such as Tencent, the Ningbo City Economic and Information Commission, and the Zhenhai District Government launched the first "Made in China 2025" industrial cloud platform, while Alibaba took on the task of building a national industrial cloud platform. Several listed companies have also begun offering smart manufacturing solutions, signaling a strong momentum toward industry transformation. The draft guideline outlined that by 2018, over 150 intelligent manufacturing standards would be revised or established, covering basic common standards and key technical specifications. By 2019, more than 300 standards would be completed, ensuring comprehensive coverage and laying the foundation for a more complete and mature smart manufacturing standard system. In addition, the establishment of testing and verification platforms for smart manufacturing standards aims to improve public service capabilities, as well as the level of standard application and international recognition. As the smart manufacturing industry continues to evolve, digital offices and smart factory projects are expected to expand nationwide before 2020. The focus of smart manufacturing system solutions will remain on digitalization, leading to rapid market growth. According to the China Electronics Institute of Technical Standardization, the market size is projected to exceed 200 billion yuan by 2020, with a growth rate surpassing 20%. This indicates a promising future for intelligent manufacturing, driven by both policy support and technological innovation.
