GIS first started supplying LCM components for Apple’s MacBook lineup in the fourth quarter of 2017, focusing on mainstream 13-inch models. The company is expected to ramp up its LCM shipments starting from the second quarter of 2018. According to industry sources, GIS is set to supply LCM modules for the new entry-level 13-inch MacBook model in the second half of 2018. It is projected that notebook LCM modules will make up around 10% of GIS’s total sales in 2018.
In 2017, GIS achieved a production value of NT$11,132 million (approximately US$388.3 million). To further boost its manufacturing capabilities, the company allocated an additional NT$4,861 million in capital expenditures at the start of 2018, including NT$1.2 billion specifically for purchasing Samsung LCM equipment. This investment underscores GIS’s strategic focus on scaling up its LCM operations.
Beyond expanding its notebook LCM production, GIS is also accelerating its efforts to integrate small and medium-sized OLED panels into its product lineup.
