Although China's numerical control (NC) system has made significant progress, over 90% of the high-end NC systems used in China's advanced machine tools are still imported. This is particularly true for high-end NC systems required by the defense industry, where the performance, functionality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the system play a decisive role. Despite the advancements, foreign countries continue to impose restrictions and blockades on China, which have become a major bottleneck in the development of high-end CNC machine tools. The NC system is essentially a combination of hardware and software, but its real value lies in the software. The software determines the efficiency, precision, and overall performance of the machine tool. A high-quality NC system not only improves processing speed but also ensures higher accuracy and better surface finish, meeting the strict requirements of modern manufacturing. In addition to performance, stability is crucial. A reliable system can maintain consistent performance during daily operations, detect potential issues early, and take appropriate emergency actions when mechanical failures occur. It should also allow for quick recovery after a fault, minimizing downtime and production losses. Compatibility is another key factor. A good NC system should support various interfaces, standards, protocols, and file formats, ensuring seamless integration with different machines and software. Some systems may only support specific types, limiting their flexibility and adaptability. For most manufacturers, investing in a more expensive but stable and reliable system is a worthwhile choice. Just like Apple phones, which are known for their smooth and stable operating system, even though they come at a premium price, many people still choose them due to their reliability and user experience. Similarly, well-known brands like Siemens, Fanuc, and Mitsubishi are trusted in the industry, and their systems are widely accepted because of their proven performance and reputation. Overall, high-end NC systems offer clear advantages over mid-range and low-end systems in terms of practicality, reliability, compatibility, stability, and user-friendliness. According to the national science and technology project "High-end CNC Machine Tools and Basic Manufacturing Equipment," the goal is to achieve a domestic market share of over 60% for high-end CNC machine tools by 2020. This indicates a huge growth potential for the future of NC systems in China. We hope that the domestic NC system will continue to develop, accumulate more experience, and eventually produce a system with higher technical content and broader application capabilities. With continuous innovation and improvement, China can reduce its dependence on foreign technologies and build a stronger, more independent manufacturing sector.
