The IC can be inserted into the rear of the switching power supply to drive the LED by controlling its output power. Therefore, the structure of the driving circuit can be made simpler without using a switching type DC-DC converter. The input voltage range can be as wide as +12 to 80V.
Each channel that drives the four LED groups is composed of different circuits. Therefore, the supply current can be optimized separately for each channel. The supply current can be optimally controlled by inserting an n-channel MOSFET and a current sense resistor into each LED group and feeding back the voltage drop. Further, in order to prevent application of an excessive driving voltage, a "dynamic headroom control function" by monitoring the forward voltage of the LED group and optimizing the feedback by the voltage value is provided. The company said that by including this feature, "improved conversion efficiency."
Dimming can be achieved by inputting a PWM signal or an analog voltage signal from the outside. In addition, external capacitors can be used for dimming. Equipped with a thermal foldback function that temporarily reduces the supply current until the temperature falls to a safe range, the low voltage lockout (UVLO) function, and protection against open/short LEDs when the temperature of the LED reaches a dangerous range.
