The biggest display terminal in the home is the arrival of new television opportunities

As one of the most significant categories of home appliances, color television has evolved since its inception in 1900, marking over a century of development. As one of the greatest innovations of the 20th century, the replacement of traditional TVs with modern color models has had a profound impact on millions of households. On November 24th, the tenth episode of the GOME Beauty Talk Series took place at the China-Dazhong Zhongta Store Global Experience Center. Peng Xiandong, General Manager of the Consumer Electronics Division at China Hongye Times Market Research Co., Ltd., attended the event. He emphasized that upgrading home appliances is an inevitable trend, and televisions are expected to become the central display terminals for smart devices in the future. During the event, Peng visited the GOME store to observe the current state of home appliances, which reinforced his perspective. He identified four key trends shaping today’s TV market. First, the value of color has become more important than ever. Consumers are no longer just looking for solutions but are seeking high-quality products that meet their aesthetic and functional needs. This is evident in the design of modern TVs, such as ultra-thin frames, curved edges, and sleek appearances. Second, screen size continues to grow. According to recent data, in cities like Chengdu, TVs larger than 55 inches are now the mainstream, compared to just 29 inches two decades ago. Peng predicts that, based on optimal viewing distances, the standard size will likely settle around 65 inches in the near future. Third, resolution is another major factor. Currently, over 50% of TVs sold are 4K or higher, with 2K models becoming obsolete. In August 2023, Sharp introduced 8K TVs, signaling a new era of technological advancement. Peng believes these innovations may extend beyond home appliances into fields like healthcare. Fourth, intelligence is reshaping the industry. With the rise of the Internet of Things, smart TVs are becoming essential hubs for information and entertainment. Peng highlights that artificial intelligence will play a key role in the future, with smart TVs leading the way as the primary output device in homes. Despite a 10% drop in unit sales in the first three quarters of 2017, total revenue increased by 5.1%, indicating that consumers are prioritizing quality over quantity. Peng remains optimistic about the future of the TV industry, believing that it will continue to evolve alongside other media formats, rather than being replaced by them. In summary, the upgrade of home appliances is not just a trend—it's a necessity driven by changing consumer preferences and technological progress. As smart TVs become more integrated into daily life, they are set to open up new opportunities for innovation and growth.
