The biggest display terminal in the home is the arrival of new television opportunities

As one of the most significant categories of home appliances, color television has come a long way since its inception in 1900. Over the past century, it has evolved from a mere "vision" into a central part of modern living. Recognized as one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, the evolution of color TVs has had a profound impact on millions of households worldwide. On November 24th, the tenth edition of the GOME Beauty Talk Series took place at the China-Dazhong Zhongta Store Global Experience Center. Peng Xiandong, General Manager of the Consumer Electronics Division at China Hongye Times Market Research Co., Ltd., attended the event and shared his insights on the future of home appliance upgrades. Peng emphasized that upgrading home appliances is not just a trend—it's a necessity. He pointed out that televisions are likely to become the core display terminals for smart devices in the future. During the event, he also visited the Gome store to observe current consumer trends firsthand, reinforcing his belief that there are clear directions shaping the TV market today. He outlined four key trends influencing the color TV industry: First, the value of color. Consumers are no longer just looking for functional solutions but are now prioritizing high-quality products that offer visual appeal. This shift is evident in the growing popularity of ultra-thin, curved designs, which cater to aesthetic preferences. Second, screen size is on the rise. In cities like Chengdu, the average size of color TVs sold has jumped from 29 inches two decades ago to over 55 inches today. Based on viewing distance and room size, Peng predicts that 65 inches will become the standard in the near future. Third, resolution is evolving rapidly. According to data from China Yikang, over 50% of current TVs are 4K or higher, with 2K models largely phased out. The recent introduction of 8K TVs by Sharp signals a new era of technological advancement, which could extend beyond home entertainment into fields like healthcare. Fourth, intelligence is becoming a key feature. With the rise of the Internet of Things, smart TVs are set to play a central role in connecting home devices. Peng believes that artificial intelligence will drive massive value in the coming years, making smart TVs more than just screens—they'll be intelligent hubs for information and interaction. Despite a 10% decline in unit sales in the first three quarters of 2017, revenue increased by 5.1%, reflecting a shift toward higher-quality, premium products. Peng remains optimistic about the future of the color TV industry, noting that while technology evolves, it doesn't replace older forms—it complements them. In his view, the TV industry will continue to develop in stages, with smart TVs opening up new opportunities. As a key output device, they will remain essential in the smart home ecosystem.
